Billi-Jo Whitlock of Hibbing has been suffering from a rare infection called Necrotizing Fasciitis and massive malnutrition from fighting the disease for four years. She must undergo another operation later this month. Without this operation, there is no chance. Her insurance will not cover the critical operation. So, family and friends will hold a benefit fundraiser for her from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday at Hibbing VFW. Click here to read her courageous story.

In his first game back from a lower back injury which sidelined him for most of last season, Rick Rickert had 13 points and 12 rebounds as the New Zealand Breakers defeated the Wollongong Hawks 114-93 in the Australian National Basketball League opener for both teams Thursday. Former Gophers and Grand Rapids standout Dusty Rychart had 16 points for the Hawks.
