Acclaimed tenor Bill Bastian sings the blues in a concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, in the Mitchell Auditorium at St. Scholastica.

Entitled “Blues and the Depression: For Drinks and Tips,” the concert features country blues and folk music from the 1920s and ’30s. Bastian will provide his own guitar accompaniment.

The music will be presented, he said, “as it was performed on front porches, at barn dances, in juke joints and schools, in churches and brothels, and at ice cream socials. Audience members will be invited back to a time when people drank water from their own wells, ate food from their own gardens, and lived a proud life, molded by their own hands.”

Tickets, available at the door, are $12 for adults and $6 for students age 18-and-younger (or with current college ID). For advance sales and more information call 723.7000 or 800.447.5444, ext. 7000 or visit www.css.edu/mitchell.xml.
