CITY NEWS
City of Duluth crews will complete the annual sweeping of downtown one-way streets on the following schedule:
. Tuesday, June 3 - Third Street from 21st Avenue East to Mesaba Avenue (odd side). No parking after 8:00 a.m.
. Wednesday, June 4 - Second Street from Fourth Avenue West to 24th Avenue East (both sides). No parking after 8:00 a.m.
. Thursday, June 5 - First Street from 21st Avenue East to Third Avenue East (both sides). No parking after 8:00 a.m.
All cars parked in work zone areas during the indicated times will be ticketed and towed.
As the weather finally warms it is time to prepare swimming pools for the season. The City of Duluth’s Utility Operations Division reminds residents who own pools and managers of facilities who operate outdoor pools that it is illegal to drain swimming pools into catch basins and the storm sewer system.
The storm sewers lead directly to our local streams without treatment. The chlorine in the pool water can kill aquatic life in the streams, including trout. Please discharge any pool water into the sanitary sewer system where it will be properly treated.
Residents are also asked to report any illegal discharge from a swimming pool into a storm sewer or catch basin. Contact the City of Duluth at 730.4130 during business hours or 730.4100 on evenings and weekends to report any illegal discharge or dumping.

The Red Plan, the Duluth school district’s long-range facilities plan, is still receiving plenty of criticism — most notably from the grassroots Let Duluth Vote campaign. But a newer citizens group called MoveForwardDuluth is rallying support to counter those complaints.
Tonight at 8 on Almanac North, representatives from both groups will meet in the PBS eight studios for a live debate on the Red Plan. It’s a great opportunity to see where both groups stand on the issues.
Almanac North is repeated Sundays at 4:30 p.m. on PBS eight.
