St. Scholastica gets ‘Best Of’ rating from U.S. News & World Report and The Princeton Review
The College of St. Scholastica is once again rated one of “America’s Best Colleges” by U.S. News & World Report. This year it is also recommended as one of the “Best in the Midwest” by The Princeton Review.
U.S. News & World Report magazine’s “America’s Best Colleges” rankings for 2009 list St. Scholastica in “Tier 1″ of Midwestern Universities-Master’s. The survey defines the category as institutions that provide a full range of undergraduate and master’s programs.
St. Scholastica ranked 22nd out of 67 colleges and universities in this category, up from 23rd last year. The category includes schools in 12 states stretching from the Dakotas in the west to Missouri in the south and Ohio in the east.
Criteria for the rankings are based on 15 indicators used by U.S. News & World Report to compare colleges, and include academic reputation, graduation rate, student retention, class sizes, student-faculty ratio and alumni support.
The Princeton Review, a national education services company, selected St. Scholastica as one of 159 institutions it recommends in its “Best in the Midwest” section of its online publication: “2009 Best Colleges: Region by Region.”
The Princeton Review named 630 schools as regional “bests.” These schools represent about 25 percent of the nation’s 2,500 four-year colleges. Schools were selected based on institutional data, campus visits, opinions of high school-based advisors, and students.
“These national ranking organizations affirm St. Scholastica’s reputation as an institution which prizes and produces excellence,” said St. Scholastica President Larry Goodwin (right). “They reflect the quality of work done by our faculty, students and staff.”
The College of St. Scholastica is an independent private college offering programs in the liberal arts and sciences and professional career fields. Ninety-six percent of graduates are employed within career fields or graduate school within six months of graduation.
